THE MADCAP’S SINGING

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

When he was fifteen Syd had his first guitar, made his own amplifier and played blues with his own band. Five years after he became the sun.

Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

After one year of shining skies with diamonds he would have a deep black stoned cold crazy look in his eyes. Ten years after he would be growing mushrooms in his basement. Twenty years after he was pushing daisies.

You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

It’s not failure but success what really tests strong characters. And this magician could not tame the beetle while waiting for the worms.

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

While others where shooting at the moon he found out how to drink it. Cups were left behind empty, just like his visionary LSD dieted brain.

Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

While others were fighting for royalties he would be drowning in pounds, neither needed nor used but for being given away. No hair, no eyebrows, no pain: comfortably numb.

Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

-So, how did you like the song?
-Sounds rather old.
-Good bye Syd.
